February Need of the Month: Snacks

Many of the kids and young adults living at Austin Children’s Shelter have a history of food insecurity – meaning they come from environments where they frequently did not know when or what would be their next meal. We strive to ensure every individual who stays with us feels safe and secure; battling food insecurity is a huge part of that. We provide three meals and two snacks per day – all delivered at the exact same time every day so they know they can count on it.  By providing consistent, quality meals and snacks each day the youth in our care never have to wonder where their next meal or snack will come from.

As of today, there are 40 kids living at Austin Children’s Shelter. That means we will go through a minimum of 120 meals and 80 snacks just today! Additionally, we are establishing a snack shelf in each cottage so that our youth and young adults can always feel secure in having access to healthy snacks. But in order to make this happen we need your help.

Please help us keep our youth fed and secure by donating individually packaged healthy snack items; popular items include peanut butter/cheese crackers, granola bars, popcorn, baked chips, fruit cups, peanut butter and jelly, etc.

Donations are accepted during office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm) and can be delivered/mailed to the address below. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly, Lindsay Contreras – Community Relations Coordinator, [email protected].
