Kathleen M. Doherty will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Foster & Adopt program. We look forward to her guidance as the Foster & Adopt team continues our work to provide services that promote safety, healing, and empowerment to all our clients.
Get to know Kathleen
Originally from New Jersey, Kathleen has worked with children and families in various therapeutic capacities for over 20 years.
Prior to joining SAFE, Kathleen was Director of Foster Care and Adoption for 3 years at Arrow Child and Family Ministries in Austin. Before that, she served as a case manager for 2 years and a counselor working with severely abused and neglected children for 14 years.
Kathleen is an active member of the Adoptive Collaborative Partnership, The Travis County Collaborative for Children, The Child Welfare Collaborative Recruitment Initiative, and has been certified and trained in TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention).
She graduated from Lynn University in South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in clinical psychology. She received her master’s in mental health counseling from St. Thomas University in North Miami Beach, Florida.
Today, Kathleen resides in the Austin area with her three beautiful children. She is dedicated to providing a safe environment for children who have been abused and neglected. She is committed to working in partnership with families and the community to strengthen and heal from within.
About Foster & Adopt
SAFE’s Foster & Adopt program provides foster care, adoption services, and kinship care to families in Central Texas. With extensive training and an experienced staff, SAFE has developed a program that offers superior supports for foster, kinship, and adoptive families.
We use a trauma-informed, trust–based curriculum that helps create a healing and therapeutic environment for the children and youth we serve. The goal is to create and support placements that will last. SAFE helps families thrive through:
- Pre-placement and on-going training
- 24-hour on-call support for families
- Enhanced, reliable access to respite care
- Access to on-site medical and therapeutic staff
- Team support to help meet children’s individual needs
