Survivors of abuse often experience food insecurity – their trauma has left them uncertain about how they’ll get their next meal. To make sure the people we serve always have access to food, the SAFE Summer Food Drive is on now.
The need for food donations
The generosity of our community keeps our pantries stocked. Our Emergency Shelter on the Grove Boulevard Campus serves approximately 300 pounds of food a week. On our Manor Road Campus, children and teens in our care receive three meals and two snacks every day.
To feed so many different people with unique food challenges and allergies, we rely heavily on community support to meet the food needs of our clients and their families.
Some of the items we need the most:
- Granola bars
- Peanut butter & jelly
- Boxed meals
- Coffee, tea, sugar, and creamer
- Canned goods (thanks to our generous donors, we currently have plenty of beans and greenbeans!)
- Vegan and gluten-free options
- Low-sodium foods
- Dietary foods for clients with diabetes
HEB gift cards also make a great donation so people in our care can pick the groceries they want. And you can check out our Amazon Wish List to shop online and have items shipped directly to our campuses.
All food must be in its original packaging, unopened, and before its expiration date.
How your donations help
We rely on summer and fall food drives to keep our shelves stocked year-round. By donating during the Summer Food Drive, you are helping us:
- Maintain a strong food supply throughout the year
- Use our Food Pantry budget for fresh fruits and vegetables
- Meet the specific dietary needs of all of our survivors
Please consider holding a food drive in your community, at your place of business, or place of worship. Our SAFE Summer Food Drive runs through the end of July, but food donations are always welcome and appreciated!
