Survivors deserve to feel confident

Items in the SAFE Donation Warehouse

At SAFE, we believe in sustaining and building confidence in the people we serve. Our programming, housing services, youth education, and commitment to making sure clients’ basic needs are met help make that a reality.

Suzy Day, SAFE’s Director of In-Kind, understands that “basic needs” extend past shampoo, diapers, and toothpaste.

Basic needs include those things in our lives that make us feel confident, refreshed, and bring a smile to our face on a challenging day,” Suzy says. “It’s a manicure set. A new pair of shoes. An aromatherapy bath set. Or an ice-cream or coffee break. We all need moments to recollect and feel hope.

“Self-care is a basic need.”

How to support a cycle of care

SAFE serves hundreds of survivors of violence each month and you, our community, have generously supported us. We cannot do it without you.

As our programs grow and we’re able to serve more clients, our needs increase. Our 365-day cycle of care means there is a high need for a flow of new items every month.

As soon as a client-ready item arrives, we put it on the shelf. Often it will be distributed to a client in less than a few days.

“Providing client-ready items is the fastest way to get the donation from our community to SAFE clients,” Suzy said. “I’ve started referring to the SAFE Donation Warehouse as ‘SAFEMart’ because I hope to provide the most dignified shopping experience to survivors. When clients are building new lives for themselves, I want to provide them fresh new items.”

Some of the items we need the most:

  • Black/African-American hair care products
  • Self-care items (spa kits, adult coloring books, aromatherapy, purses, other smileinducers)
  • MP3 players, earphones
  • Room décor
  • New underwear, socks, bras, shoes, pajamas (sizes youth – adult)
  • Spanish language books, magazine subscriptions
  • Music and movies (Rated G or PG)
  • Items for creating a new home (silverware, plastic drawers/storage tubs, bed sets
  • Store and Restaurant gift cards
  • Food storage, cleaning supplies, and laundry supplies
  • Razors, shaving cream, lotion, face wash, first aid, other hygiene items
  • Individually packaged snacks, other pantry items
  • Size 5 and 6 diapers

A couple things to keep in mind

If you plan to make a donation, please make sure all items are new or in “regiftable” condition.

Consider purchasing an extra item when there is a buy one, get one free sale, holding a SAFE drive for your birthday or work retreat, and saving our Amazon Wish Lists to your account.

Each time you shop on Amazon, you could add one item to your cart to automatically be shipped to our clients!
