SAFE seeks donations for foster Alumni Community Services

Written by The SAFE Alliance

When a young person ages out of foster care, it doesn’t always mean they are ready to lead a healthy, independent, successful life. That’s why SAFE is developing a Alumni Community Services.

Why we need a Alumni Community Services

  • Each year, around 1,500 Texas youth age out of the foster care system
  • An estimated 1 in 5 of youth aging out of foster will become homeless
  • 1 in 4 will face the justice system within two years

Alumni from the SAFE Children’s Shelter often return for support from our caring staff. In the last two weeks, we’ve seen 13 alumni. Some ask for one-time assistance, but others are homeless, emaciated, and in need of serious treatment.

The alumni program provides education and career assistance, financial assistance based on assessment of need, snacks, and basic material items. Youth can gather with peers and access a stable, familiar support system of adults and resources.

A little support can be the difference between continuing on a path of success and a life-changing setback. If you’d like to help our efforts, consider donating here.
