Univision A Su Lado Phone Bank Helps Survivors Find SafePlaceWritten by Workhorse Marketing
Univision 62 recently hosted a successful phone bank with nine Spanish-speaking SafePlace staff members. During the phone bank these staff members spoke with callers about domestic violence and sexual assault statistics, safety planning, and ways to help a friend or loved one in need. They also discussed the services available at SafePlace.
Two spokespeople were interviewed throughout the broadcast to put a public face on the event: Lourdes Carillo and Cynthia Trejo. Also on hand were: Resident Advisor Silvia Acosta, Survivor Advocacy Manager Claudia Thompson, Agnes Aoki from Expect Respect, and three hotline shelter staff: Nancy Morelos, Andrea Gonzalez, and Josie Slawick.
The phone bank and similar outreach events ensure that people in need are aware of our services. Some survivors in the area may not know that 70% of SafePlace’s direct service members are bi-lingual, and that we strive to offer 24/7 Spanish-speaking staff.
Our staff did a wonderful job increasing awareness of SafePlace’s services–The 24-hour hotline has received a number of calls from people who saw the broadcast and prefer to be helped by a Spanish-speaker. Thank you to Univision for hosting this event, and to our staff who took the time out of their evenings to reach out to the Spanish-speaking community.
