The children and young adults staying at SAFE have all experienced trauma. Building confidence is a fundamental part of working through that trauma. Our Strong Start team and Black/African-American Staff Task Force hosted events this month to help the young folks in our care go back to school with confidence!

Backpacks for students

Strong Start hosted our annual Back-to-School Celebration on Aug. 4, drawing families and friends for free fun and food! We had 200 backpacks full of school supplies to hand out ahead of the start of the new school year!

Back-to-school hair cuts!

We held our second annual back-to-school hair event on Aug. 13, hosted by the Black/African-American Staff Task Force. Local stylists, barbers, and hairdressers who specialize in Black/African-American hair volunteered their time and skills to make sure the kids and young adults in our care go back to school in style!
