SAFE’s Foster and Adopt in Austin program provides foster care, adoption services, and kinship care to families in Central Texas. With extensive training and an experienced staff, SAFE has developed a program that offers superior supports for foster, kinship, and adoptive families.

We use a trauma-informed, trust-based curriculum that helps create a healing and therapeutic environment for the children and youth we serve. Our goal is to create and support placements that will last.

What is a Kinship Family?

When children are placed in with a kinship family, they stay connected to their birth family, are placed with a family they know, and continue lifelong family traditions. Additionally, foster families will qualify to receive monthly financial reimbursements and health care assistance for each foster child in their care. Financial reimbursement, state paid college tuition, along with medical and dental coverage, will vary dependent on the needs of the child or children in your care.

How SAFE helps foster and adoptive families thrive:

  • Pre-service & Ongoing training
  • 24-hour on-call staff support
  • Home visits and case management services
  • In-kind support for activities, school supplies and more
  • Therapy for children and families
  • Parent coaching
  • Assistance locating respite
  • Help accessing community resources
  • Compassion and understanding

Frequently Asked Questions about Fostering and Adopting through SAFE:

Why should I foster or adopt?

A foster/adoptive home, whether with a single parent or couple, affords a child the opportunity to develop healthy emotional intimacy, trust, self-esteem and the opportunity to learn valuable life skills. A foster parent’s most important role for the duration of the child’s stay is to connect
