Using technology to build healthy relationships

In the digital age, young students must navigate societal pressures that are more varied than ever.

Last October, 34 empowered students from Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy established the first Cyber/Tech Abuse Awareness Week on their campus.

Running from Oct. 17 through Oct. 21, the students created five days of activities, including a school-wide assembly and classroom lessons. Original skits illustrated pressures students experience to send sexually explicit photos, texts, and hateful messages. They explored the harmful effects of these behaviors and challenged peers to “build people up,” online and off.
