SAFE School graduates record number of students

Written by SAFE

We are thrilled to announce that the SAFE School is graduating a record number of students this school year! At the end of this semester, seven seniors at the SAFE Children’s Shelter campus will graduate, bringing the total for the year up to 11.

“I am so glad I was able to come to this school, I never thought I would be able to graduate high school because I was moving around to too many schools, but it has always been a dream of mine to go to college. That dream now feels possible for the first time!” — 2021 SAFE School graduate

Our students have overcome so many challenges to reach this point–including the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and February’s winter storm. Our staff couldn’t be more proud of their achievements!

“Graduation day is an incredibly important day for the youth that live at SAFE. For many youth in care, graduation is not something that they see as a possibility. Gaps in education, numerous school placements, and lack of academic support, to name a few, make finishing high school incredibly challenging. Seeing our students overcome so much adversity and work so hard to get to this point in their education is incredibly special and worthy of celebration!” –Andrea Menchaca, SAFE Director of Schools and Educational Services

For the safety of our students and their families, graduation will be held virtually.
