TEAM FX races to end child abuse

Written by Emma Rogers

On Feb. 18, 2018, runners from around the world will be racing through Austin’s streets for The Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. While the race is still more than five months away, TEAM FX has already begun training and fundraising for the big day.

TEAM FX

Since Coach Gary Walker started TEAM FX in 2005, over 270 runners have raised more than $340,000 to make a positive difference for children who have suffered abuse and neglect in Austin. By signing up for the team, participants commit to raising $750 each for SAFE’s children’s shelter services.

The TEAM FX registration fee, $255 for the half marathon and $290 for the full marathon, includes much more than the cost of training and coaching sessions. In addition to covering race registration, the fee includes a team running jersey, team meals, a finish-line massage and celebration party, plus additional perks, all while raising awareness and donations to end the cycle of child abuse and neglect in our community.

While training for a full of half marathon may sound intimidating, Coach Gary Walker’s program is adapted for anyone from beginner to seasoned runner. If you’ve never run before, don’t worry! TEAM FX is designed with a “couch-to-race” mentality that caters to all skill levels. The team focuses on injury-free training in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Anyone can help

Even if you don’t want to commit to the race itself, you can still support the children’s shelter services by sponsoring a runner on TEAM FX. All donations will go directly to the shelter, and you’ll also be entered into a raffle to win prizes from local businesses.

Registration for TEAM FX ends on Sept. 9, so please consider joining today to make a difference in your own life, as well as for the children of Austin.
