9 creative ways to meet your giving goals

As you think about your giving goals for the rest of 2022, know that SAFE offers creative ways to increase your impact without cutting into your cash. It’s called planned giving, and there are many options to learn about!

1. Stocks and mutual funds

Donating stocks and appreciated securities is a tried and-true tax strategy that can benefit you and your family! If you itemize, and your gift qualifies, you can claim a charitable deduction. Learn more at at safeaustin.org/stocks.

2. Donor-advised funds

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle that provides an immediate tax benefit to you, and allows you to grant funds to charities of your choice. It’s incredibly easy to designate your DAF gifts to SAFE. Visit safeaustin.org/dafs to learn more.

3. Retirement distributions and QCDs

SAFE supporters who are 70.5 years old or older can maximize their impact with our mission, and maximize their personal savings with a tax-free gift from your IRA.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your Individual Retirement Account, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, if certain rules are met. Learn more at safeaustin.org/qcd.

4. Crypto currency

SAFE now accepts cryptocurrency. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. This makes Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax-efficient ways to support your favorite cause.

5. Needed supplies

Donating your or your company’s goods or services is a much needed gift at SAFE. They are called “gifts in kind” and many times it can provide a tax credit if you itemize.

7. Bequests and legacy gifts
